I just notice a few mistakes here and there in my last update. Gah! Maybe I should turn the music a bit more down when I'm writing my blog. :-)

Sorry, aber da haben sich ein paar Fehler im Bericht reingeschlichen. Vielleicht sollte ich in Zukunft die Mucke leiser drehen während ich schreibe. :-)

Winter greetings. Wintergruesse.

Yes, it's quite cold. I bet this wind is from Siberia. But when the sun comes out, I'm fine with anything. Sooo, lots of stuff's been happening again. First of all, I started the New Year by lying sick in bed with the flu. At least things only got better from then on :-). I also have two new colleagues at work (Heather and Mike Colletto), who are a great addition to our PR team. As is customary to any American, we watched the Super Bowl from 1-4am ... with the PR staff retreat (in the beautiful Austrian alps not far from Vienna) beginning the next day. The topic happened to be personality assessment and team-building. I thought I'd flunk the tests due to a physical revealing of my lack of sleep. Instead I appear to have perfectionist tendencies, while also being a team worker. Actually I was the only one who turned out to be a team worker from our whole team. Hmm...we'll leave this to debate ;-), but actually our team complements each other really well. It's just a pity that Barbara, our PR director, is leaving in May, but we're grateful that we've already found an adequate replacement.

What else? Our current grand PR project is creating two more DVD clips of the series Epic Stories. On the first DVD, we want to increase awareness of the situation of the Roma, whereas the second topic is the ever-important question "Why radio?", which is currently being filmed in Thessaloniki, Greece. Somehow I didn't make the cut on the PR team, so no Greece 'vacation' was in for me. Well, someone had to do the dirty work back home anyway ;-) Frank Stefani, a good friend of mine from Garmisch, Germany, spontaneously agreed to help out as a videographer for both DVDs, since the planned guy was suddenly not able to come. I'll see to it that a statue will be erected in Frank's name at our office.

Folks, I'll be traveling to Germany and Holland in the upcoming weeks. So I'd really appreciate your prayers for good meetings/workshops and safe travels! Thanks!!! Oh, and I'm likely to interview the band Delirious via phone at the end of the month. Awesome! I hope that works out.

One last thing for now, I've actually finished my next newsletter (yeah, no joke! ;-) ) My upcoming new job position and new financial situation are described in there. So far, it's only in German, but I should have the rest done in the next week. I'll give Frank Stefani a few to take home in print and I'll send it per email as well!

Ja, kalt ist es schon geworden hier in Bratislava. Dieser sibirischer Wind...wiederlich! Aber wenn die Sonne scheint, wird alles besser. Jaaa, vieles ist mal wieder passiert.
Zunächst find das Neue Jahr schniefend und mit Grippe im Bett. Naja. Aber seitdem ging's stetig bergauf :-). Ich habe zwei neue Arbeitskollegen, Mike und Heather Colletto, die unserem Team sehr bereichern. Wie es unserer patriotische Pflicht als Amis war, haben wir den Super Bowl (Finale des American Footballs...DAS sportliche Highlight des Jahres in den USA) angeschaut...und zwar von 1-4 Uhr morgens. Passenderweise hatten wir am naechsten Tag unseren Abteilungslehrgang in den wunderschönen Alpen nicht weit von Wien. Persönlichkeitstests, sowie die Optimierung unserer Abteilung hinsichtlich ihrer Gaben und Einsatzgebiete standen auf dem Programm. Ja gut eh...mein augenscheinlicher Schlafmangel wurde mir trotzdem nicht zum Verhängnis. Anstatt 'Schnarchnase' wurde meine Persönlichkeit mit der Auswertung 'Hang zum Perfektionismus' bedacht. Aha. Und bei der Analyse unserer Abteilung stellte es sich heraus, dass ich der einzige Team-orientierte Mitarbeiter bin. Na dann, Prost! ;-) Im Ernst, wir haben derzeit eine sehr ausgeglichene Abteilung und ergänzen uns sehr gut. Leider geht die Chefin im Mai nach Amerika, aber glücklicherweise konnten wir schnell adäquaten Ersatz finden.

Was gibt's noch zu berichten? Ach ja, derzeit arbeiten wir alle mit Hochdruck an einer Erweiterung unserer erfolgreichen Serie der Epic Stories DVDs. Zwei weitere sollen kreiert werden. Die erste DVD wird das Thema der Roma haben, um dem Publikum ihre Situation noch anschaulicher darzulegen. Das zweite Thema widmet sich der Frage "Wieso Radio?" und wird gerade in Thessaloniki, Griechenland gedreht. Unfassbarerweise musste ich daheim im Büro bleiben, während sich die meisten anderen der Abteilung in Griechenland sonnen durften...aber irgendjemand muss ja die Drecksarbeit machen ;-) Frank Stefani, ein guter Freund aus Garmisch hat sich spontan bereit erklärt als Videographen für die DVD Produktion einzuspringen, da der Vorgesehene plötzlich verhindert wurde. Wir werden ihm daher hier einen Denkmal setzen.

Leute, ich werde in den nächsten Wochen nach Deutschland und Holland reisen. Ich würde mich sehr über Gebete freuen, denn es stehen Kongresse, Workshops und lange Reisen an. Herzlichen Dank!!! Ach ja, ich werde wahrscheinlich die Band Delirious am Ende des Monats interviewen dürfen. Hoffentlich klappt's!

Zum Schluss sei gesagt, dass ich es tatsächlich geschafft habe, den nächsten Rundbrief fertigzuschreiben (kein Witz! ;-) ) Darin beschreibe ich meine neue berufliche und finanzielle Situation. Bisher ist der Rundbrief nur in deutscher Sprache verfasst, aber das englische müsste während der Woche fertig sein. Ich gebe Frank Stefani einige Kopien, um sie in Garmisch zu verteilen. Sie werden natürlich in Kürze per Email verschickt.

News. Neuigkeiten.

Surprise!!! I'm back. :-) Well, forget my last posting that you'd get brand new Thanksgiving news...you'll have to settle for Christmas news...pardon!

The annual turkey-pow-wow sent my cholesterol into the stratosphere with all those tasty things (yams, stuffing, cranberries, salads, pies...hot-diggity, I'm getting hungry again!). It seems as if I've fostered my reputation as a poor, starving student from my college days, because I was invited to a whopping three Thanksgiving meals. Fate was definitely on my side, since all of the meals were distributed during the week. (On this note, I'd like to give 'mad props' to the Plett & Chick families as well as the International Baptist Church of Bratislava).

Yep, November also meant that my birthday was commemorated. Right on time for the cake-cutting, Dave and Paul showed up on the scene. Together with Jan (my roommate), Jozef and Marta (landlords), we cooked up a storm and it was delicious!
The next day, TWR had a staff retreat to a hotel in the town of Donajske Streda (translation: Danube Wednesday), about an hour away from Bratislava. We basically chilled all day using the pool and steam bath, making use of the day by not moving more than absolutely needed ;-).

My Dad also dropped in on me from the States which was really nice. Thanks to the free flight on a military jet, he visited me and my brothers for approx. one and a half weeks altogether. This also meant that he could come with me to our annual Christmas dinner at TWR, which was great. He'd already been to Bratislava 13 years ago and to Vienna 30 years ago...but of course the cities and life in general have changed over here.

I'll be back in Garmisch, Germany, from Dec. 23rd until Jan. 4th. I hope to be able to see some of you during this time. Hopefully you've all received my newsletter by email or postal mail. Last but not least, I'd like to wish you all a wonderful and blessed Christmastime. God became man through Jesus Christ...how many times have I heard this already! But actually, it's amazing time and again if we take the time to reflect on this.

Ueberraschung...da habt ihr mich wieder :-) Tja, vergesst den vorigen Eintrag, dass ihr brandaktuelle Thanksgiving Infos bekommt...denn die bekommt ihr jetzt. Verzeihung, verzeihung.

Der aktuelle Truthahn-schmaus fuehrt zwar den Cholesterinspiegel in ungeahnte Hoehen. Das ist ja auch nicht verwunderlich bei Suesskartoffeln, Stuffing (Brotteig mit Selerie und Zwiebeln), Preiselbeeren, Salate und Torten...Herrschaftszeiten, krieg ich wieder Hunger!). Ich habe mir anscheinend den Ruf als armer, hungriger Student aus der Uni-Zeit beibehalten, denn in der Woche wurde ich zu satten drei Thankgiving-essen eingeladen...praktischerweise alle an unterschiedlichen Tagen. (An dieser Stelle seien 'fette Props' an Familien Plett & Chicke, sowie die International Baptist Church von Bratislava gesendet).

Jaaa, ansonsten hatte der November meinen Geburtstag anzubieten. Puenktlich zum Tortenanstich kamen Gebrueder Dave und Paul. Zusammen mit Jan (WG-Kollege), sowie Jozef & Marta (Vermieter), haben wir ein gemeinsames Festessen hergezaubert. Danach ging's am Samstag nach Donajske Streda (uebersetzt: Donau Mittwoch), was ca. ne Stunde ausserhalb Bratislavas liegt. Hotelpool, Dampfbad und stundenlanges Faulenzen haben wir ausgiebig getestet. Schliesslich soll so ein Betriebsausflug von TWR die Erholung dienen!

Nun kam mein Vater auch ploetzlich aus den USA vorbei. Dank kostenlosem Flug per Militaerflieger besuchte er jeweils Paul, Dave und mich fuer insgesamt anderthalb Wochen. Somit konnte Dad auch auf die TWR-Weihnachtsfeier mitgehen, was mich sehr gefreut hat. Er war schon vor 13 Jahren mal in Bratislava, sowie vor 30 Jahren in Wien...aber natuerlich haben sich die Staedte und das Leben hier ziemlich veraendert.

Vom 23.12. bis zum 04.01. werde ich wieder in Garmisch sein, und mich wuerde es natuerlich freuen, wenn ich einige von euch wieder treffen koennte. Ich hoffe auch, dass diejenigen auf meiner Rundmail-Liste die Rundbriefe auch schon bekommen habt. Wer eines will, sich aber damals nicht bei mir eingetragen hat, darf mir gerne unter fast-mail@web.de die Email oder Postadresse geben...und bald duerfte Neues im Postkasten liegen :-)

Euch allen erstmal ein tolles und gesegnetes Weihnachtsfest! Gott wurde Mensch durch Jesus Christus...tausendmal gehoert, aber wenn man es wirklich zur Gemuete fuehrt, kann man tatsaechlich immer wieder nur staunen.
